- [The country that emits the most CO2 is not the country that emits the most CO2 per person](https://furlen.pro/stories/co2-total-vs-per-person): in 2024 China emitted 13,124.7 Mt of CO2 against 4,632.2 Mt for the United States and 3,153.8 Mt for India — but per person China emitted 9.32 t, the United States 13.62 t, India 2.17 t, and Qatar 47.33 t on a national total of only 135.3 Mt. India is third on totals and last per person of the four. China passed the US on total emissions in 2005 and has never passed it per person in this data; US emissions per person are down about 35% since 2000. Note the older EN.ATM.CO2E.* indicators many comparisons still cite are discontinued and now return nothing.

A falling rate means prices rise more slowly, not that they fall: the index dropped in 19 of the 77 month-on-month comparisons but never once sat below its own level a year earlier. The decline is also not continuing — the rate bottomed at 1.7% in January 2026, rose for four months to 3.2% in May (its highest since September 2023) and eased to 2.7% in June. That headcount peaked at 623.0 million in 2015 and has fallen since, so the region is catching up — it is still 73 million behind where it started. Worldwide the two measures agree instead: access 78.2% to 91.9%, and the number without down 684.4 million, of which India is about 61% (420.0 million to 1.5 million). In 2017 the total fertility rate was 1.795, its highest since 2012; it then fell every year to 0.999 in 2023 (about 44% lower) before edging to 1.013 in 2024. About 17% of that fall predates 2020, which is what rules out attributing it to the pandemic. The divergence therefore starts a decade before COVID, and a life-expectancy chart alone cannot show it. In 2021 life expectancy was 0.3 years below its 2000 level and HALE was 1.4 below. Annual additions peaked at 91.6 million in 1990 and have stayed between 65.7 and 91.6 million for every year of the 54-year series. The additions are computed as successive differences of World Bank population totals (SP.POP.TOTL) and re-verified from the live series; fertility is SP.DYN.TFRT.IN as published, both pulled 2026-08-01. The page deliberately does not claim "below replacement": the global threshold is mortality-dependent (~2.2–2.3), and 2.20 sits inside that uncertainty.

In constant 2015 US dollars Japan's GDP rose from $4.534tn to $4.764tn (about +5%); in current US dollars it fell from $4.534tn to $4.435tn (about −2%). The two series are equal in 2015 by construction, so everything after is domestic prices plus the exchange rate. They also disagree about the worst year: 2020 on the real measure (output genuinely fell), 2022 on the nominal one (output rose that year).
