Furlen Charts — animated chart maker

Furlen Charts is a browser-based animated chart maker. You paste or upload a spreadsheet, pick one of six chart types — line, area, bar, bar race, pie or scatter — and export the result as a video. It runs entirely in the browser with no signup to try; paid plans remove the watermark. Charts can also pull live figures from public sources such as the World Bank, IMF, FRED and SEC EDGAR, with the citation attached to the chart.

Furlen Charts is an interactive app and needs JavaScript to run — these links open it.

Which chart types can Furlen Charts make?

Six: line, area, bar, bar race, pie and scatter. Which one is available depends on the columns in your data — the table below is the exact rule the app applies, so a dataset with no date column will not be offered a bar race. Funnel charts are not in this studio; they are a scene type in Furlen Stories.

Chart typeRequired columnsGood for
LineNeeds a date/time column and a numberBest for change over time
AreaNeeds a date/time column and a numberEmphasise cumulative change
BarNeeds a category and a numberCompare values side by side
Bar raceNeeds a date/time column, a category and a numberA ranking that moves over time
PieNeeds a category and a numberShow parts of a whole
ScatterNeeds two number columnsRelationship between two numbers

What data can you import?

Paste or upload CSV or Excel (.xlsx reads directly, with no conversion step), or import a Google Sheet or a Wikipedia table by URL. Headers are detected automatically, including files with title rows above the real header. You can also start from a screenshot of an existing chart: Furlen Animate reads the values printed in a chart image, shows them for review, and opens the result here as an editable animation in the original colours. A long format with one row per period-and-category works best:

Year,Platform,Users
2014,Facebook,1390
2014,Instagram,300
2015,Facebook,1590
2015,Instagram,400

What is in Furlen Stories rather than Charts?

Furlen Stories is the AI story builder: it writes a multi-scene narrative from your data and recomputes every claim against your source rows before export. Some chart kinds only exist there.
